Guardamar del Segura – beaches, nature and authentic Spanish life on the southern Costa Blanca
Guardamar del Segura is one of the coastal towns on the southern Costa Blanca that many people discover late in their property search – but which many ultimately fall in love with. The town is located approximately 30–35 minutes by car from Alicante Airport and has around 17,000 permanent residents. This makes Guardamar large enough to offer life and facilities all year round, yet small enough to feel safe, calm and easy to navigate.
What truly sets Guardamar apart from many other areas on the Costa Blanca is its natural surroundings. The town is famous for its kilometres of wide, sandy beaches, considered among the best in the region. The beaches are bordered by natural dunes, creating a more open and peaceful beach experience than in many densely built-up coastal towns. There is plenty of space, even during the summer months, and the beaches are enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike.
Behind the beaches lies the large pine forest Parque Natural Alfonso XIII, which plays a central role in Guardamar’s identity. The forest stretches along the coastline and is widely used for walking, exercise and relaxation. The combination of beach and forest gives the area a green and healthy atmosphere, which many find especially appealing when planning to live here year-round.
Guardamar del Segura itself is a genuine Spanish town with a lively centre. Here you will find supermarkets, local shops, cafés, restaurants, a weekly market and traditional fiestas. Many of the residents are Spanish, and the town remains active throughout the year – not only during the high season. This gives Guardamar an authentic atmosphere that appeals to many Danish buyers who wish to become part of local life rather than live in a purely tourist-oriented area.
The residential areas around Guardamar are varied. In and around the town are areas such as El Moncayo and Pueblo Bravo, where many international homebuyers – including Danes – have settled. These areas often offer a quieter setting, while still being close to the beach, nature and town centre. Golf courses are typically within a 10–15 minute drive, and larger towns such as Torrevieja, as well as shopping centres, are close by, making everyday life easy and convenient.
Guardamar del Segura is an excellent choice for those seeking beaches, nature and authentic Spanish everyday life in safe surroundings. The area is suitable for both holiday homes and permanent living and is particularly appealing to those who value tranquillity, space and authenticity – without compromising on good facilities and infrastructure on the southern Costa Blanca.
